Regal Chinese Cuisine & Banquet Hall

I’ve been meaning to try Regal for some time after reading Ivy and Joe’s dinner experience.  Since Ruby Chinese Restaurant closed down, Ellen’s Food Group took over and opened one of their many ‘Regal’ named restaurants in its place, the others being Regal Palace and soon enough, Regal Express.  Ellen Pun is the woman behind EFG and her journey in hospitality first started in a meals-on-wheels business catering to nursing homes.  Today, you can find EFG products in supermarkets, stores, malls, or visit one of their restaurants across the city.

Congee Queen

It’s been a while since I visited a Congee named restaurant so this time, I headed to Congee Queen.  The reason is because these restaurants get really crowded, especially on weekends, and I like to avoid crowds wherever possible.  But with nothing special planned and well, there’s always time for food and company, Congee Queen it was!

Joe Yee Vegetarian Cuisine

Joe Yee serves Chinese and Japanese food.  Not exactly exciting huh?  What if I told you they only serve Chinese and Japanese vegetarian food, would that render some interest?  Or how about Chinese and Japanese vegetarian food made to resemble the real deal?  Like eating salmon sashimi except it isn’t salmon, but feels exactly like you’re eating salmon?  Come, I’ll show you.

Asian Legend Northern Chinese Cuisine

As its website claims, Asian Legend first opened its doors in Toronto’s Chinatown back in 1988.  What a milestone.  Many restaurants in Toronto open and then close shortly after, so having been opened for more than 20 years is a true accomplishment.  What made it work?  Probably a combination of good food, reasonable prices, quality control, unique flavors, and the ability to adapt to change that comes with customer tastes.  I should also mention pleasant customer service, something entirely foreign to many Chinese restaurants.  Here’s a recap of my recent dinner at Asian Legend.
