Nope, I’m not referring to the Restaurant Makeover eatery that was formerly Ithaca. I’m talking about the Greek restaurant on the east side of town. Ithaca is also the name of an island in Greece. That’s about as much as I know with regards to the name of the restaurant, but it gives me another location to put on my places to travel list. This is my first time eating at Ithaca despite passing by it many times. Having said that, first impressions will count as usual, but you’ll mainly hear how the experience was like.
“For over 20 years, we’ve been providing our customers with the freshest possible fruit and vegetables, meat and seafood, bakery items and more.” I couldn’t agree more. I can never get over how ridiculously fresh the products are at Michael-Angelo’s. It seems each item has a glowing ring of freshness above them as if they came straight from the farm. Not only that, they sell products that you can’t find in your everyday No Frills which makes a visit there, exciting as ever.
Here’s a heads up. You may have heard of the money saving tip of never going to a supermarket on an empty stomach. The idea is that we end up buying more than necessary when we’re hungry. I’m not sure how accurate this describes my shopping habits because I feel I buy more than I need either way, but I have to admit that I do sometimes go on empty stomachs. Still, each time the supermarket run is to Longo’s I feel that this guideline applies. That’s because I fill up at their cooked foods section called The Kitchen before shopping.
The Village Grocer started back in 1986 as a neighbourhood grocery store in Markham. You know, one where the butcher would call you by your first name and where the bakery lady would ask about your kids. Despite this generation of superstores and one-stop shops, The Village Grocer aims to keep things homely. They go as far as making arrangements to bring groceries to your house and offer simple, courteous service that make a big difference. Quality and homemade foods are their specialty. I am particularly fond of their cakes, and you will understand why in a bit.
Spare time is eating time. And that’s exactly why I ended up eating at Station Asia. It was between lunch and dinner on an off day, I had the option of cleaning the house which, to my defense, wasn’t that dirty in my opinion. Then one quick call to my fellow bon vivants and off we were in search of some food. Out of gratitude, I am discovering how valuable are the relationships nurtured over food that I’m thankful to have. Eating time is also living time.
